PHSC discussing disputed recommendation for Supreme Court judges
Kathmandu, May 13. A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) is underway at Singhadurbar to discuss on the controversial recommendation of the Judicial Council for the appointment of eight judges at the Supreme Court. It has said that the Committee won’t able to recommend for revoke the decision to the JC.
Earlier the JC’s member Khemnarayan Dhungana has already claimed for stick in the stance of not revoke the decision.The recommendation garnered widespread concerns as the judges pitched in the JC’s recommendation ‘have had a bad reputation in the judiciary’.
Claiming that there was a foul play in the judicial council while recommending the names, various law bodies, including the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) – have demanded that the recommendation be revoked at the earliest.
However, it has been learnt that the PHSC will only be able to either endorse or reject the recommendations. The constitutional committee will not be able to direct the Judicial Council to scrap or revise the names that have been recommended.
