Panel to probe SSP Kharel’s controversial remarks
Kathmandu, May 26. IGP Upendra Kant Aryal has formed a panel to investigate the issue of controversial statements given by SSP Ramesh Kharel that some incumbent DIGs are trying to bribe the government ministers and other senior politicians for their promotions.
The three-member panel has been headed by DIG Bigyan Raj Sharma, includes SSP Ramesh Kumar Pandey and SP Ganesh Thapa will investigate over the controversial speech delivered by SSP Kharel.
Speaking at a function organized by the Hem-Sarita Pathak Foundation at Mahendra Police Club on Saturday, Kharel had stated that the DIGs are visiting the residences of the ministers and politicians for their promotions.
Kharel had “Some DIGs are being promoted soon,” he had stated, “Some DIGs are frequenting the houses of government ministers with briefcases full of money.”
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mahendra Pandey was the chief guest at the program. He had told the foreign minister that those who are trying to bribe the politicians for their promotions should be blacklisted.
According to a source, SSP Kharel had made ‘objectionable remarks’ against a section of DIGs at a public function organised in the Capital yesterday to honour nine personalities, including him.
Seven AIG posts have been lying vacant for the past four month and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Nepal Police Headquarters are yet to promote DIGs to fill the vacancy. Legal and other administrative hurdles have been blamed for this.
