EC declines transfer of SSP Kharel



Kathmandu, May 30. The Election Commission (EC) on Friday said the codes of conduct implemented for the upcoming by-elections on June 22 restricts Nepal Police from transferring chief of the Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu SSP Ramesh Kharel.

According to the Chief Election Commission Mr. Nilkantha Uprety, a full meeting of the election commissioners held at the Commission today decided not to approve the government’s request to transfer Kharel.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday had sent a letter to the Commission seeking the latter’s consent in Kharel’s transfer.

MoHA had initiated the process to transfer SSP Kharel, following his alleged public remarks at a function on last Saturday that DIGs aspiring to become AIGs rush to visit ministers with cash-laden briefcases to secure their promotion.

The Nepal Police Headquarters had formed a three-member probe panel to investigate the alleged ‘objectionable remarks’, establish the fact. The panel has been given seven days to submit its report.
