Death toll in Sankhuwasabha landslides rises to 6
Sankhuwasabha, August 5. The death toll in Sankhuwasabha landslides reached 6 after police recovered one more body from beneath the debris on Monday morning.
According to the Chairman of the National Emergency Operation Centre, Jhanka Nath Dhakal, the deceased has been identified as Purna Bahadur Koirala.
The landslides triggered by torrential rainfall washed away 10 members of three families in the wee hours of Monday.
Bodies of Kritiman Koirala (68), his wife Devi Maya (55) and their daughter Tulasa (14), Meharman Korirala (63) and eight-year-old Prajwal Koirala were recovered yesterday.
Dhakal said that Meharman’s wife Kumari, Purna Bahadur’s father Indra Bahadur, his daughter-in-law Samjhana and grandson Roshan have been unaccounted for after the landslides swept away their houses.
Security personnel from Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and Armed Police Force have been searching for the missing persons since this morning. Earlier on Monday, Minister for Local development Prakash Man Singh reached the incident site and assured immediate relief to the victims.
