CA meeting continues

Kathmandu, December 23. Lawmakers are worried over the dilemma regarding promulgating a new constitution on slated time. The parties were found confused as to which process should be implemented to shorten the CA process for timely constitution.

Discussion on the report of the constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee ( PDCC ) is in a stalemate. During the CA meeting on Tuesday, lawmakers urged the senior leaders to forge consensus for timely constitution as per their previous commitments to the people.

Ruling parties’ lawmakers have said that the PDCC report should not be returned to the committee as the time for promulgating the new constitution has drawn too close. However, the opposition parties’ lawmakers have spoken for returning the PDCC report to the committee as per the CA provision.

CPN-UML lawmaker, Amrit Kumar Bohara, said that the constitution should be issued on slated time even by shortening the process as unemployment and price hike have badly affected the people due to prolonging transitional phase. He urged the opposition parties to come to a dialogue forsaking the protest programmes.

Similarly, Nepali Congress lawmaker Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the endless discussions on the disputed issues could not ensure the timely constitution and it would tantamount to cheating the people to again send the report back to the PDCC .

He urged the opposition parties either to come with alternative report on the disputed issues or to accept the report of the ruling parties. He said it was not time for protest and CA Chair should take the initiation to resolve the disputed issues either through consensus or voting process.

UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Dhaniram Poudel said that the parties should reach in consensus to resolve the disputed issues and parties should not go back from the responsibilities.

Rastriya Prajantra Party, Nepal lawmaker, Babina Moktan Lawati proposed to go in referendum to finalize the disputed issues of form governance and federalism. The CA meeting is going on. RSS
