Severe cold kills cattle in Lomanthang

MUSTANG: March 9: More than 20 Himalayan goats and some yaks have died due to severe cold triggered by heavy snowfall in Lomanthang in the district.

The pasture is all covered with thick snow forcing the farmers to confine cattle within the shelter for a week.

Santosh Sherchan, Chief of Annapurna Conservation Area Project in Lomanthang said that the goats and yaks are dying day by day due to biting cold.

Although the weather is improving, it took time to melt the snow.

The farmers have been worried after the Himalayan goats raised for upcoming Dashain festival began dying.

If the toll rises, Nepal has to depend on Tibetan Himalayan goats in the festival, Sherchan added.
