NRB marks Global Money Week

KATHMANDU, March 15: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) today organised a rally in the Capital on the occasion of Global Money Week, March 9-17, to mark its financial literacy campaign. The rally, was started from Basantapur and ended with a corner meet at Balmiki Campus, Exhibition Road.

Addressing the corner meet, NRB Governor Yubaraj Khatiwada urged the students to develop saving habit. He cited an example of the country’s gross national saving that is less than 10 per cent of income, but other economies similar to Nepal save more than 25 per cent of their income.

“Our country doesn’t have much savings, which is why we have remained backward,” he said. “We need to save more and that should be done at a personal level.”

The NRB governor further informed the students that if they develop saving habit from school they could spend their savings for higher education and other requirements. He also urged them to deposit (save) money at formal and reliable financial institutions.NRB had launched the ‘NRB with students’ initiative some two years back to promote financial literacy.
