POKHARA, March 21: Potato worth Rs 130 million was produced in Hemja of Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City this year.
Chief at the Agriculture Service Centre, Hemja, Guru Prasad Aryal, said that potato produced in Hemja area increased by five to 15 per cent. He added the production jumped up this year due to favourable weather and no blight disease on the crop.
Around 8,000 metric tonnes of potato was expected to be produced this year against the 7,000 metric tonnes in the last year in Hemja. Potato was cultivated in 480 hectares of land this year.
A total of 1,085 farmers in the area are involved in commercial potato farming.
