Simraungadh shooting: Victim’s family gets Rs 1 million

BARA, March 21: The government has provided Rs 1 million in compensation to the family of Jayanarayan Patel, who was shot dead in police firing at Simraungadh on October 11 last year.

Chief District Officer Bal Krishna Panthi said that the amount has been deposited in the bank account of Patel’s family. The government provided the amount on the recommendation of parliamentary committee that was formed to investigate into the incident.

The investigation report of the incident is due to be submitted at Legislature Parliament, said committee coordinator Atahar Kamal Musalman.

Patel, 42, of Hariharpur-7, was shot dead while Shah Mohammad Hawari, 28, of Hariharpur-5, was seriously injured when Armed Police Force personnel fired at demonstrators who were demanding maintenance of the Kalaiya-Simraungadh road.
