Guest suspected of murdering host
RAUTAHAT, Apr 7: A houseowner was murdered by his guest in Gaur of Rautahat yesterday night. Jahir Ansari, 65, of Pokhariya, Gaur Municipality, was killed by Prabez Ansari of the same municipality yesterday night.
Prabez killed Jahir by slitting his throat with a weapon. Family members of the victim have claimed that Prabez had also looted Rs 5 lakh in cash.
Prabez had come to Jahir’s house during night requesting shelter, said District Police Office, Rautahat.
As per police investigation, Jahir and Prabez knew each other for a long time.
DSP Sudhir Raj Shahi of the DPO quoted villagers saying that Jahir used to sell contraband to Prabez.
According to the victim’s family members, Jahir, along with his wife and daughter-in-law were preparing to go to bed after meal when Prabez came to ask for shelter.
As the house had a single bedroom, Jahir’s wife and daughter-in-law left for a neighbour’s house, leaving behind the two men.
DSP Shahi said they suspected Prabez was the killer as only the two of them were staying inside the house that night and Jahir was found dead the next morning.
The victim’s family members said the house door was open when Jahir’s wife returned early morning.
Upon reaching home, she found her husband lying on the floor, drenched in a pool of blood while Prabez was at large.
Jahir is survived by his wife and two sons. One of his sons is in abroad for employment. It has been learnt that Jahir had received money from his son, who is abroad, to build a house a week ago.
Police suspect that Prabez’s intention was to rob Jahir as he knew about the money. Police said a search for the accused was under way.
