KMC collects Rs 1.5 mln trash dumpers

KATHMANDU, APR 13: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has collected Rs 1.515 million in fine in the first eight months of the current fiscal year for dumping trash in public and restricted places across the city.

The fine has been collected from 800 organisations and individuals who were found to have dumped trash and posting promotional pieces of papers on walls at public places. Also, action has been taken against the small mobile shops occupying public places and littering there.

The KMC, in a bid to continue the ‘Green and Clean Kathmandu’ campaign following the 18th SAARC Summit held in last November, has been taking action against those littering in public places. The arrested are charged Rs 500 to Rs 100,000 as fine and could be slapped imprisonment up to three months under the Waste Management Act, shared Shantaram Pokharel, Spokesperson of KMC.
