Homeless Udayapur fire victims in a lurch



GAIGHAT, APR 24: Fire victims have been facing a hard time after they lost their property in a blaze that broke out yesterday at Sorungchhabise in Udayapur.

At least nine houses belonging to four families, along with cash, jewellery, food grains, utensils, clothes and cattle, among others had turned into ashes.
The family members of the nine houses have been sheltering in their neighbours’ houses.

Police said that the houses belonging to locals Bom Bahadur Adhikari, Ganesh Bahadur Adhikari, Lok Bahadur Adhikari and Shekhar Adhikari were destroyed completely in the blaze.

It has been said that the fire victims have yet to receive relief materials. They were compelled to spend the night under the open sky. Tej Bahadur Khadka, a local, said that their neighbours had been managing food for them.

Meanwhile, Officer Kumar Khadka of District Administration Office said no fire victim had come to the office for relief and compensation yet. He said relief materials would be distributed soon after taking down details of the loss. Police estimates said that property worth Rs 13 lakh was destroyed.
