Women’s participation exemplary in traffic resumption

Parasi, Sept. 18: The roads to hilly areas in Nawalparasi district which were obstructed due to landslides following the heavy rainfall in the recent weeks have come into operation, thanks to the participation of women in clearing the obstructions.

Women’s participation for regular maintenance works of the road has increased in the recent days after a deal with the SNRTP programme of the District Development Committee. As the young men from the villages have gone abroad for foreign employment, women themselves have been carrying out such social works in the rural areas.

Vehicular movement has resumed in Arkhala, Dhaubadi, Jaubari, Bharatipur, Dedhgaun, Naram, Mithukaram and other areas after the women’s groups cleared the obstructions caused due to the floods and landslides.

Last year, mules were used to supply the medicines and foodstuffs in the rural areas of Nawalparasi district as vehicular movement was disrupted along the Daldale-Dhaubadi-Mithukaram road section during the entire rainy season. RSS
