Sunauli transit point opened after locals’ pressure

Lumbini (Rupandehi), Sept 28: India has eased the Sunauli border transit after the pressure of locals of Belahiya as the transit was blocked by Indian sides showing the dissatisfaction on the promulgation of new constitution in Nepal.

Belahiya Customs Office chief Lavanya Kumar Dhakal said that the border transit has been eased today and more than 40 goods carrying vehicles entered Nepal today.

The vehicles were carrying cooking gas cylinder, fuel, textiles, fruits, onions among other goods, said Rabin Babu Regmi, Belahiya Area Police Office chief.

He added that other more vehicles were on the way to cross the border. The border transit is the second biggest in the country and was totally blocked from Indian sides citing security threat as Joint Madhesi Front cadres had agitated in no men’s zone for some days.

Locals of Belahiya had retaliated Madhesi cadres’ protests as they were agitating in no men’s land.

Police further informed that the agitators ran away after the locals’ retaliation. It is learnt that over 40 goods carrying vehicles entered Nepal within one hour period. RSS
