UNSC adopts Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security
Kathmandu, Dec 10: United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security on Wednesday.
The resolution outlines the duty of governments to protect young people during conflict and in post-conflict societies, promote their participation in peace building and peacekeeping, include youth participation at all levels of decision-making, and invest in youth’s education and professional capabilities to disengage and reintegrate the minority of the world’s youth population involved in violence.
The total 70 organisations and UN agencies of various 40 countries presented the proposal at the council for approval around six years ago.
According to the statement issued by the United Network of Youth Peace Builders today, the resolution would be helpful for youths to launch a drive against violence and to build peace in the aftermath of Paris attacks that left more than 130 people dead.
