Nepal to adopt new education policy soon

BHAKTAPUR: Minister for Education Giriraj Mani Pokharel on Sunday said the government has been making preparations to introduce a new education policy.

The Minister said a new commission would be formed to modify the current education policy to suit the necessity of new Constitution which has ushered in the republic set-up along with secularism and a promise for an inclusive society.

Attending a programme organised at the Bhaktapur Durbar Square premises, during which the district was declared as the 20th full literate district of the country, Minister Pokharel lambasted the Indian government’s undeclared blockade, which he termed as ‘a wrong move’ taken to show dissatisfaction when Nepali people were united to create an epochal Constitution.

He said the government was operating in a very difficult scenario and stressed resolving the problems through dialogues and negotiations.

“The government is ready to resolve the internal issues through amendment to the new Constitution and resolve the external problem through diplomatic initiative,” Minister Pokharel said.

The Minister regretted that the goal to declare the country fully literate by the end of 2015 would not be met and that the failure must be seriously ruminated on. He added that the country’s continuity to be enlisted as the Least Developed Country (LDC) was a matter of shame in the international community.
