Rai appointed acting IG



KATHMANDU: Additional Inspector General of Armed Police Force Durja Kumar Rai, who was appointed acting chief of the paramilitary force following the suspension of APF chief Kosh Raj Onta, commenced his career in Nepal Police as an Inspector on February 15, 1987.

He was transferred to the APF from Nepal Police as superintendent on April 17, 2001. Born in Bhojpur on November 16, 1961, Rai completed his master’s degree in humanities and social sciences from the Tribhuvan University. He resides in Kuleshwor, Kathmandu.

Rai was elevated to the post of AIG on November 3, 2011. He has been a noted national-level volleyball player and shot-put, javelin throw, handball and discuss throw athlete. He has participated in eight international-level volleyball tournaments representing Nepal.

In his 29 years of professional service, he has taken part in numerous national and international trainings, programmes and workshops. In recognition of his outstanding service and performance, he was decorated with several awards, including Gorkha Dakshinbahu and other decorations.
