Parliament meeting: three-party decision should get concrete shape soon

Kathmandu, Dec 29: The Nepali Congress has pointed out the need of extensive discussion regarding the role of the parliament, blaming the government for the failure to carry out works in favour of people affected by earthquake and the border blockade.

In today’s meeting of the Legislature-Parliament, Nabindra Raj Joshi said that although the government, along with six deputy prime ministers as well as 31 ministries, has been formed, the people facing chilling cold for lack of houses have not got chance to experience the government.

He said, “People have been facing problem of price hike but the government has been paying its attention to expand the Cabinet. It is not seen sensitive towards the matter of giving relief to the victims of border blockade and earthquake. So there is necessary to hold broad discussion regarding the role of parliament.”

Similarly, Shyam Kumar Shrestha of the UCPN (Maoist) complained over government’s failure to provide relief to the victims, drawing the attention of the parliament over the death of 13 quake survivors due to the cold.

He said that the decision of the three major political parties should be given a concrete shape soon to address the demands of agitating Madhesi parties.

Likewise, Asha Chaturvedi of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal (Democratic), drew the attention of the government to end the ongoing Madhes agitation and border blockade.

Dilliraj Kafle of Nepal Workers Peasants Party accused the government of giving the responsibility of constructing Nepal’s hydropower projects to India in the name of the country reeling under an acute shortage of cooking gas and petroleum products due to the Indian blockade.

Likewise, Jayadev Joshi of CPN (United) also blamed the government for failing to fulfill its commitments pledged beforehand for the state and people, curb increasing black marketeering and provide reliefs to April 25 earthquake victims even around nine months after the disaster.

Similarly, Ranjana Kumari of CPN-UML demanded that the government should investigate the murder of Ram Naresh Raya at Haripur VDC in Sarlahi district today and take action against the guilty.
