Koirala urges top three party leaders to strike consensus for new leadership
Chitwan, Dec 30: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shashanka Koirala has urged top three NC leaders (sitting President Sushil Koirala, Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba) to strike consensus to pick the new party president in its upcoming 13th general convention.
Koirala said that consensus among the three leaders was a must when it comes to choosing new NC president as it seems that there was division in the party due to struggles going on within the party to run for new president.
He said so while speaking in a press conference organised by Chitwan chapter of Nepal Press Union in Chitwan.
Saying that the convention would open the door for the start of party’s new chapter, leader Koirala said that the NC was seeking for a new leadership that could deliver a new insight to the party.
When asked about the trend of handing over party leadership among members of Koirala family within the party for granted, he said that he was ready to lead NC once his cadres and people believe in him in this regard.
On the matter of him filing his candidacy to the post of president, he said that a decision in this regard would be taken only after the suggestions of his cadres.
On a different note, Koirala said that it was not the time to seek alternative to the government instead it was the need of the hour for political stability.
He suggested Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resolve current political crisis, taking all into confidence.
