NA to mark birth anniversary of late King Prithvi Narayan Shah as nat’l unity day

Kathmandu, Jan 1: The Nepal Academy (NA) is set to celebrate the 294th birth anniversary of late King Prithvi Narayan Shah on January 11 amidst the organisation of various programmes.

This is the first time, after 2062-63 people’s movements, that NA is going to celebrate the birth anniversary of Shah, the unifier of modern Nepal.

As part of the programme, NA chancellor Ganga Prasad Uperati said that NA officials with a carriage would reach in front of Singha Durbar in the morning of January 11 and offer garland on the statue of Shah there.

“NA is going to celebrate January 11, the birth anniversary of Shah this time around as attempts are being made to shadow nation building process undertaken by the late king under the pretext of various disputes being picked,” he said.

He also viewed that the government should prioritise Shah’s birth anniversary as before.

Likewise, NA member-secretary Prof. Dr Jibendra Dev Giri said that NA is coordinating with Civic Celebration Committee and the History Association of Nepal in this regard.

He said that there is the need for national integrity amid chances of nation disintegration taking shape at this point of time.
