Investors worry as construction of many hydel projects in Lanjung halts for want of fuel
Lamjung, Jan 8: Investors are a worry lot as construction of many hydropower projects in the district has been halted due to the April 25 earthquake and ongoing Tarai protest.
Many hydel power projects have come to a halt, citing lack of fuel. Lamjung Chamber of Commerce and Industry former chairman Bhesh Bahadur Poudel, also manager at the Super Dordi Hydropower Project, said that investors have poured money in hydel power projects after taking loan from banks, but they have been hit hard due to repeated extension of the deadline of projects to complete.
“We started the construction of 27 megawatts hydropower project with an aim to complete it within two years. But the construction has been halted for the past nine months,” he said.
Likewise, the construction of 50 megawatts Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ has come to a halt for want of fuel. The project officials said that around 95 percent works of the project have been completed, but fuel scarcity has affected it.
Four other hydel power projects have started producing energy in the district, while other six projects are under construction.
