Cardamom worth Rs 5 billion produced in Taplejung
Taplejung, Jan 13: Taplejung district has produced 2,410 metric tonnes of cardamom worth Rs 5 billion this year.
According to the District Agriculture Development Office, the production increased by 1,000 metric tonnes this year as against the total production of 1,410 metric tonnes of cardamom last year.Price of per maund (around 42 kg) cardamom is Rs 90,000-Rs 92,000 in the local market. With the increase of cardamom production, income of farmers has also increased. Cardamom is known as black gold.
Horticulture Development Officer, Umesh Raut, said that the district has produced 2,410 kgs of cardamom this year and the price of each kg of cardamom is Rs 2,300. Cardamom is produced on 4,500 hectares of land in the district.
A total of Rs 3.70 billion entered in the district from the sale of cardamom as against Rs 3.15 billion in the last fiscal year 2070/71 BS.
