Tourism Minister Pokhrel urges Congress to join government

Bhaktapur, Jan 16: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ananda Prasad Pokhrel has called on the Nepali Congress to join the government.

Speaking at a programme organised by the CPN (UML) Madhaypur Municipality-16 ward committee in his honour Saturday, Minister Pokhrel, who represents the major ruling party UML in the incumbent coalition government, urged the main opposition Congress to be a part of the government as unity among the parties was a must to take the country out of existing transition and lead it to the path of development. “Nothing has gone wrong yet, I call on the Nepali Congress to participate in the government, I am ready to quit the ministerial post if necessary to accommodate Congress in the government,” he said.
He alleged that some forces were doing hard to keep the leftists and Congress apart and the Congress breached the collaboration with the UML acting upon the gestures from the same forces. This was the mistake on the part of the Congress, but still it could reconsider to join the government.
Minister Pokharel further said the government had started the post earthquake-reconstruction works and distributed Rs 10,000 to the disaster survivors to buy warm garments. The first installment of the assistance amount promised by the government to those left homeless by the disaster to construct the house will be dispatched within mid-February, according to him.
On the occasion, the participants urged the Tourism Minister to focus on the development of their locality and local tourism.
