Tenzing Hillary Airport failing to operate FIDS
Solukhumbu, Jan 16: Passengers at the Tenzing Hillary Airport at Lukla in the district were facing hardship due to lack of flight information display system (FIDS) to the passengers. The system informs the passengers about the arrival and departure of the flights in real time.
The airport is the one of the busiest domestic airports in the country, which sees 80 to 90 flights daily during the touristic season.
Due to high likelihood of cancellation of flights to and from Lukla, passengers are found curious about their flights inside the terminal building; however the airport was failing to notify the passengers about their flight time and respective planes.
A tourist guide Nuru Sherpa complained that the domestic and foreign passengers were always concerned about their flights and plane due to lack of notification. The notification system remains out of operation for the past few years despite assurances from the airport management for resuming the services soon.
Apart from the passengers, aircraft companies were also facing difficulties to find their respective passengers in time.
