Delay in announcing energy crisis



Kathmandu, Jan 16: No preparations have been made so far by the government for announcing the energy crisis in the country though it was supposed to be declared by mid-January.

The government on November 24 last year issued a white paper which stated that the energy crisis would be declared by mid-January this year. The immediate reform plans unveiled by the government just after the issuance of white paper too incorporated the matters of declaring energy crisis.
Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal (IPPAN) has already made frequents requests to the government as the severe power scarcity has hit the country.
A committee formed by the Energy Ministry on December 23 to formulate an action plan on the announcement of energy crisis is yet to complete its task. The Ministry said that it was waiting for a committee report before taking any decision regarding the announcement, Assistant Spokesperson for the Ministry Gokarna Raj Panth said
