Ministry of Forest set to introduce ecosystem service policy

Kathmandu, Jan 19: Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation is set to introduce a policy on ecosystem service in a bid to promote, manage and ensure regular supply of the service.

Experts and participants at a workshop organised in the Capital today held discussions on the draft of Payment for Ecosystem Service Policy, 2072 to bring the policy.Speaking in the meeting, Forest Minister Agni Prasad Sapkota said that the ministry would provide full support to bring the policy as it was high time to utilise natural resources wisely.

Likewise, secretary at the ministry Udaya Chandra Thakur said that a final touch would be given to the draft after collecting suggestions and experiences of experts.

Experts at the event suggested challenges and difficulties in the implementation of the service and talked about its merits and demerits.

Also, Dr Ghan Shyam Gurung, Nepal’s representative of the World Wildlife Fund, Dr Yaklavya Sharma, director of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and under secretary at the ministry Madhu Ghimire among others delivered their views at the event.
