Shaman held for injuring child

Panchthar, Jan 21: The District Police Office here has arrested local shaman Suk Bahadur Rai, who injured a child seriously with a burning metal in the name of treatment.
Shaman Rai had stung the buttock of the 14-month-old child from Ogam-1 of the district, reasoning he was suffering from bad omen of a witch. He had singed the toddler’s buttock with a burning scion and hot stone two week back.
Now, the child has been brought to the District Hospital for treatment. With the shaman’s treatment, the condition of the child further deteriorated, said mother Urmila Rai.
Dr Manoj Nepali at the District Hospital said that the condition of the child was very serious and he needs at least a week’s treatment at the hospital.
The child family reportedly took him to the local faith healer for treatment of diarrhea.
