Week long programme in capital in memory of four martyrs

Kathmandu, Jan 24: The martyrs week, a seven-day programme held in Kathmandu in memory of Nepal’s first four martyrs—Sukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Gangalal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand, began here today. The four were killed by Rana rulers for making people aware against autocratic Rana regime.
As part of the programme coordinated by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), condolence assembly will be held at the locations in the Capital where the freedom fighters were executed, the organisers said.
Likewise, a morning procession will start from Ratnapark on January 16 that will converge into a programme at Sahid Smarak in Lainchaur, they said. The main organising programme committee has been formed for the matter.
Executive officer at the KMC Rudra Singh Tamang said that the programme is being organised in memory of the martyrs in coordination with KMC since 2012 BS.
