Tharu Sabha says statute amendment incomplete

Kathmandu, Jan 24: Tharu Kalyankari Sabha has said the first amendment to the constitution failed to address the demands of the Tharu community.
In a press statement Monday, the Sabha said Tharus have so far been deprived of their meaningful participation in every state apparatus. We call for a proportional representation of the Tharus in the mainstream of the state on the basis of their population and a reserve quota for the specific Tharu community. However the first amendment to the constitution carried out last Saturday has not addressed the spirit and demands of Tharuhat movement.
The Sabha said ongoing Tharuhat agitation launched for a separate autonomous Tharuhat province in the federal Nepal will continue until the demands were met.
