Forum poised to launch capital centric agitation

Kathmandu, Jan 25: The Federal Socialist Forum – a constituent of the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) – on Monday retraced the structure of the form of agitation to focus it in the capital city.
The Forum launched a new form of struggle programme in opposition of the passage of the Nepal Constitution’s first amendment which it argued did not address the demands of the indigenous nationalities and Tharu communities.
Forum will start its agitation programmes in collaboration with the Front while giving continuity to the process of dialogue and negotiations.
At a press conference held to make public the decision taken by two-day Central Committee meeting, it was related that the agitation programmes to obstruct supplies at the customs points and the highways will continue.
Forum’s Co-Chairman Rajendra Shrestha said the constitution amendment did not address agitators’ demands while rendering the demand for proportional inclusiveness unattainable. He added that the ongoing agitation would continue moving forward with formation of the provincial struggle committee.
The meeting also demanded declaration of those killed in Tarai-Madhes and Tharuhat agitations as martyrs, release of those arrested and withdrawal of cases filed against them and formation of a judicial commission to probe into incidents of human rights violation.
The meeting presided by Forum Chairman Upendra Yadav endorsed political, organizational and financial report and divided power among various committees and divisions.
