Chicken distributed to supplement pregnant women’s diet
Dang, Feb 2: As high as 90 farmers in Dang district have been provided with improved chicks to supplement the diet for pregnant women and children below two years of age under the integrated nutrition programme, Suaahara.
Officer at the District Agricultural Office, Dang, Nabin Shrestha said that each farmer is given with 10 chicks in Koilabas, Rajpur, Phulbari, Syuja, Kavre, Luharpani, Hasipur, Bela and some other VDCs.
Shrestha said, “We distributed chicks to supplement the diet for the pregnant and children as they need more diets and that nutrition is found in eggs.”
According to Shrestha, each farmer in every village is given the chicks and the farmer later would sell the eggs in subsidized rate targeting the pregnant women and children.
Likewise, the farmers are also given a five-day-long training for poultry to yield better products with support from the Suaahara.
Furthermore, the farmers are given improved seeds of vegetables in the VDCs.
