Dispute over threshold in employees’ election



Kathmandu, March 13: The employees’ organizations in the government service have disputed whether to keep threshold in the upcoming election for the authentic trade union.

Minister for Labour and Employment, Dipak Bohara, held a meeting with the office bearers of seven different associations of the government employees, where four associations advocated against threshold. However, the provision is there that there must be at least 20 percent threshold.
Nepal National Employees’ Organization affiliated to the UCPN (Maoist), Nepal Madhesi Civil Servants’ Forum, Nepal Civil Servants’ Organization and the National Employees’ Organization did not like to have threshold in the election.
However, the employee associations aligned to the Nepali Congress, to the CPN-UML, and two others demanded threshold in the election.
Meanwhile, chief election officer Rajiv Gautam informed that preparation for the election was sped up.
