Works on to facilitate distribution of royalty to writers, artistes: Minister Rai



Kathmandu, March 15: Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai today said that efforts were on to facilitate distribution of royalty to writers, artistes and literati through an effective way.

He also said that they would also be provided with identity cards on the basis of genre they belong to.
“Guidelines are being made to collect and distribute royalty to writers through a new and effective way, and distribute identity cards to them on the basis of genre they are associated with,” Rai said, speaking in today’s meeting of Legislature-Parliament Development Committee.
The participants at the programme demanded that writers and artistes should be provided with royalty and a review should be made on royalty given to writers by telecom service providers.
Likewise, secretary at the ministry Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said that efforts were underway to form a permanent mechanism to implement the royalty criteria report, 2072 and work procedure to distribute identity cards to writers, artistes and literati has reached the final stage.
Similarly, secretary at Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Kumar Rai said that the ministry is committed to implement the Copyright Act and Regulations.
Also, executive director at the Nepal Telecom Buddhi Acharya said that necessary action would be taken to distribute lumpsum amount in royalty to writers, artistes and literati through the royalty collection society within three months.
