138 receive naturalised citizenship in Itahari after adoption of new statute



Itahari, March 20: After the adoption of the new constitution in September 20, 2015; a total of 138 Indian-born women have got naturalised citizenship from the District Administration Office (DAO), Sunsari.

The DAO said that the Indian women married to Nepali men in Sunsari district have taken the naturalised citizenship after quitting the Indian citizenship and submitting other documents.
The DAO Sunsari records reveal that the number of Indian-born women taking naturalised citizenship is on the rise after the promulgation of the new constitution.
Administrative Officer at the Office Dinanath Lamsal said that a woman seeking naturalised citizenship should apply at the DAO along with her marriage registration paper, husband’s citizenship, document justifying cancellation of her Indian citizenship and some other documents.
Lamsal added that the Office issues the citizenship certificate in a single day if all the documents and processes were met by the service recipients.
Of the recipients of naturalised citizenship, more women are from Shreepurjabdi, Haripur, Bhokraha, Narsingh, Babiya, Madhyaharshahi, Duhabi, Pakali and Inaruwa in the district.
At a time when some Madhes-centric political parties were misinterpreting the provision of citizenship stated in new constitution as discriminatory, the records of the DAO state the politicians’ claim as the wrong one.
