Pasang Lhamu Memorial Day commemorated



Kathmandu, April 22: The Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Memorial Day has been marked organizing various programmes here in the capital today. Sherpa is the first Nepali woman summiting the Mt Everest, the highest peak in the world.

Rich tributes were paid to the national luminary Sherpa on the occasion.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli garlanded the statue of Sherpa at Chuchchepati, Baudhha today. On the occasion, Um Hong Gil, a South Korean national was felicitated by the Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation for his notable contribution in the area of health and education.

On the occasion, lawmaker and chair at the Foundation Kripashur Sherpa informed that the Foundation has been annually marking the 10th of the Nepali month Baishakh as the Pasang Lhamu Memorial Day.

Mountaineer Sherpa had gone missing after she fell down while descending from the summit of Mt Everest on 22 April 1993 (Baishakh 10, 2050 BS).

Also present on the occasion, were director general at the Department of Tourism, Sudarshan Dhakal, among others.
