Singer Prem Dhoj Pradhan honored

KATHMANDU, Jan 28: Singer and composer Prem Dhoj Pradhan was honored by the Lahana Media on Friday during a cultural program dubbed ‘UFO Bhintuna Sanil’organized on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1137.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Jivan Bahadur Shahi, social worker, Laxmidas Manandhar and artist, Briguram Shrestha feted Pradhan with shawls rewarded a cheque carrying Rs 51,111 in cash prize from UFO Clothing Store.
On the occasion, Singer Pradhan sang some songs in Nepal Bhasha that he had recorded in 1965 in India. Artists Jems Pradhan, Bhim Tuladhar, Nisha Desar, Surajbir Bajracharya, Ajola Singh, Sulindra Shakya, Anjana Shrestha and Pankaj Rajopadhyay also gave their performances during the program.
Minister Shahi pledged to take necessary initiative in establishing the Prem Dhoj Musical Academy. Singer Pradhan spoke of the need to establish a trend for rewarding artists of all genre
Prem Dhoj Pradhan was born in 1938, June 6 in Chautara, a small town 28 miles east of Kathmandu. He is also known as the Golden Voice and King of Romantic Melodies of Nepal.
Prem Dhoj is known for being the first to perform with a guitar in Nepal. He was also the first Nepali singer to sing with Indian playback singer Usha Mangeshkar for the movie Maitighar in 1965. In 1985, he sang duet songs with Asha Bhosle for the movie Mayalu in Bombay, India. Prem Dhoj has varied his musical style throughout his career and recorded approximately 700 songs on Radio Nepal, including live broadcasting and recorded songs.
He is famous for his songs like Ghumtima Naau Hai, Para Laijau Fulaharu, Hasne Raharharu Anshuma, Yo Nepali Shir Wuchali (Duet with Tara Devi ) and so on others.
