Nepal Army will be deployed in the upcoming local poll: State Minister Baniya

KATHMANDU, April 5: Minister of State for Home Affairs Indra Bahadur Baniya said that the approved security plans and policies for the upcoming Local level election had already been sent to related administrative bodies.

Speaking during an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Wednesday, he said, “The security forces will be deployed in the voting centers and election area within a week.”

“Nepal Army will be also stationed in the election areas. But government will decide on what role Nepal Army will have in the upcoming election. All the security  forces will be mobilized because it is a most that local poll be held in free, fair and fearless environment,” he added.

He also expressed his confidence that Madhesi Front would also participate in the election.

He said, “Preparation for election in Terai-Madhes is full swing. There is no doubt Madhes-based parties will also participate in the local level election.”

He also clarified that the local level election would be held in single phase on the stipulated date which is May 14. “I have heard news on media that government is exploring possibility of holding local level election on two phases. It is not true. Local poll will be completed on May 14 across the country in a single phase,” he said.

“Government is sincere towards the demands of Madhesi Front. Their issues will be addressed before election,” he added.
