Test transmission of community radio begins

JUMLA, May 20: A new community radio station, ‘Khula Akash’ 99.6 Mega Hertz has begun its test transmission.

The new radio station established at Bijayanagar of Chandannath municipality-6 began on May 10 aims to ensure the access to communications of all the citizens. “We target to contribute to communications development in Karnali region and making it pro-people,” station manager Rabi Nepali said.

Member of Parliament Dilli Prasad Kafley contributed Rs. 4.2 million from the MPs development fund to set up the radio at the initiative of the NGO Good Governance Association. This brings the number of community radio stations in Jumla to four, including the already existing Karnali FM, Naari Aawaj and Sinja FM.

The test transmission that began on May 10 will run for 20 days before the regular broadcasting starts, according to station manager Nepali. RSS
