BUTWAL, June 8: A youth arrested on the charge of printing fake currency notes was presented before the media by the police here today. The police also confiscated a machine and other materials he was using to produce counterfeit notes from his ‘office’.

One Santosh Malla, 21, of Kanchal Rural Municipality of Rupendehi was found indulging in such illegal activity in the name of operation a non-government organisation. The ‘Orphan Helping Hand’, an NGO registered and being operated by him and based at Nawadeep Path of Butwal Sub Metropolitan City, was found used as the venue for producing fake currency notes by the accused, according to the police.

A free-ink printer machine, a laptop and fake notes were confiscated from his office, Area Police Office Butwal’s Deputy Superintendent of Police Mukunda Marasini said.

During the police investigation, it was revealed that the accused had opened an account in the Prabhu Bank, Butwal chapter and tricked bank staff to get fake notes exchanged with the 114 genuine Rs 1,000 denomination notes at two times.

The complaint from the bank about the detection of 70 fake notes of Rs 1,000 denomination prompted the police to launch an investigation. He was arrested with the help of CCTV footage provided by the bank.

Police confiscated 100 fake notes of Rs 1,000 denomination, 100 notes of Rs 500 denomination from his private residence and 259 notes of Rs 1,000 denomination and five notes of Rs 100 denomination from his office during raids. RSS
