KATHMANDU, June 17: Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) leader Rajendra Mahato has argued that RJPN were compelled to announce its agitation to save the country. He accused the leaders of top three major political parties to have conspired to disintegrate nation and said, “What are they trying to do by postponing the election in Province 2? It is clear…they are trying to divide the country. They are conspiring to disintegrate Madhes.”

“We had no other choice but to start agitation,” he added while speaking during an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Saturday.

He further said that his party will not participate in the election unless their genuine demands are met adding that rescheduling the election in Province 2 would not solve Madhes problems.

“The government is only trying  to sideline our demands. We want poll deferral in all four provinces.”

He added, “We can not commit in participate in election like this. Tharu and Indigenous problems should be addressed first if they want us in election. Our bottom line is addressing our genuine demands through constitution amendment,” Mahato added.

He also accused that these three parties’ ego is leading the country to nowhere but conflict. He added, “Disintegrating Tharu from Madhes will not solve our problem, rather it will only encourage further conflict leading country to uncertainty.”

“The government cannot not just ignore the Madhesi people’s demands and decide anything. Our people have died fighting for our rights and privileges,” he added.

“We will not let this go easily. We will strongly resist if the government forcefully tries to conduct election.”

The government during a meeting with RJPN leaders, on Thursday, decided to reschedule election in Province 2 and fixed it for September 18. But RJPN said that the decision was unacceptable as they were seeking poll deferral in all provinces until their demands are met.
