Production of Mango declines in Siraha

LAHAN, July 2: Production of mango has decreased in Siraha, known as the capital city of mango, this year.

According to the District Agriculture Development Office, the mango production decreased this year due to disease and also due to the fact that the production was high last year.

Horticulture officer Bindeshwor Yadav said that 43,428 metric tons of mango was produced in 5,170 hectare of land this year.

The production was 42,057 metric tons in 4,950 hectares last year. As a result, the price of mango has increased with the decrease in its production. Now the price Maldah variety of mango is Rs 100 of per kg this year against Rs 50 and Bambai mango at Rs 120 against Rs 40 last year.

The mango produced in the district is exported to different cities of the country including Kathmandu, Biratnagar and Pokhara as well as to neighbouring countries. RSS
