Nepal a virgin land for investment, Vice President says in China
KATHMANDU, July 8: Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun delivered his keynote speech in the Nepal-China (Gansu) Economic and Trade Exchange Conference.
The event was organized by Embassy of Nepal in Beijing with support from Gansu Provincial People’s Government at Gansu International Conference Centre in Lanzhou on Friday morning.
According to a press statement by Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, Vice President Pun said that the avenues for bilateral relations between Nepal and China have further widened following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Belt and Road Initiative, joining AIIB as a founding member and being a dialogue partner in Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
He also said that Nepal’s participation in the 23rd Lanzhou Trade and Investment Fair is a continuation of Nepal’s participation in various such events every year organized by different provinces of China in order to promote trade, investment, culture and people to people relations.
Being a close neighbor of China, it is natural for Nepal to aspire for the enhanced level of partnership between the two countries, he added.
Vice President Pun said that Nepal is virgin land for investment and foreign investment is secured by law adding that as Nepal needs investment, reliable technology, long term cooperation and sharing of experiences, China possesses all these three.
Likewise, Vice President Pun thanked the Chinese government for its announcement of marking the year 2017 as Nepal Tourism Promotion Year in China and said that Nepal is committed to making the year fruitful with concerned efforts of all stakeholders.
During the program, Vice-Governor of Gansu Province Song Liang highlighted the prospects of furthering relations between Nepal and China in the fields of tourism, investment and trade.
On the occasion, Nepal’s Ambassador to China Leela Mani Paudyal highlighted the aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and stressed the need of further engagements in economic, trade, tourism and investment sectors at government and peoples’ levels for optimizing the potential mutual benefits, reads the press statement.
On the occasion, Ambassador Paudyal responded to the questions raised by the Chinese entrepreneurs about the status and provisions for reconstruction of quake-damaged heritage sites and government policies towards attracting foreign investment in agriculture, tourism, and culture in Nepal.
Senior government officials from Gansu Provincial people’s Government and some 200 Chinese entrepreneurs with 22 Nepali business persons participated in the conference chaired by Zhang Shein, Deputy Director General of Gansu Commercial Department.
Also, Ambassador Paudyal participated in China (Gansu) Silk Road Economic Belt Countries’ Practical Cooperation Forum organized by Gansu Provincial Government with Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Thursday afternoon.
Delivering a speech, he shared about prospects for practical cooperation opportunities among belt and road countries with Nepal.
“The Embassy strongly believes that the series of promotional programs it has conducted like today in different parts of China has been successful in generating sufficient interest among Chinese enterprise but requires constant follow-up to realize the tangible output,” reads the press statement.
Expressing its gratitude to all who supported to the program, the Embassy expressed its commitment to perform with due diligence to promote relations in the interest of both countries and people in the days ahead.
Vice President Pun is scheduled to leave Lanzhou on Sunday to visit Shaanxi Province of China. RSS
