KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Around 53 percent votes have been cast so far in the third round of local level election being conducted in eight districts of Province 2 as of 1 pm Monday, according to the Joint Election Operation Center of the Election Commission. The voting will continue until 5 pm.
As per the latest update from the JEOC, Saptari saw 50 percent voters turnout, Rautahat 60 percent, Siraha 50 percent, Mahottari 50 percent, Dhanusha 45 percent, Parsa 55 percent, Bara 50 percent, and Sarlahi saw 60 percent voters turnout as of 1pm today.
Monday’s election will elect will elect 6,627 local representatives. A total of 37, 236 contestants are vying for the post of chiefs and members of the local units and ward committees, according to the EC. Of the total contestants, 14, 375 candidates are women.
A total of 26, 64, 950 registered voters are participating in the polls today. Of the total allocated seats, eight have already been elected unanimously, according to the EC officials.
