Two CCTV cameras installed in CNP to study behaviour of man-eater tiger

CHITWAN, Oct 5: Two CCTV cameras have been installed in Kumroj buffer zone community forest in Chitwan in a bid to study the behaviour of a tiger that killed a woman recently.

Whether the tiger is sick or injured will be known through this camera trapping method, and efforts to capture it will be initiated accordingly, said assistant conservation officer at the Chitwan National Park (CNP) Abhinaya Pathak.

The cameras have been set up by technical team of the CNP and the National Trust for Nature Conservation with the help of local people.

According to a latest study, in the past, a single tiger has been found to have attacked at least 20 people, and the same technology was used to capture the tiger. Of the total 120 tigers in the CNP, five percent is found to be suffering from various problems, a study said.

A total of 13 people were killed in wild animal attacks in the last fiscal year, according to CNP data. RSS
