Imperiling democracy needs safeguarding: Daman Nath Dhungana

BHAKTAPUR, Nov 20: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Daman Nath Dhungana has argued that the imperiling democracy of the country has to be safeguarded before it is too late.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal in Bhaktapur on Monday, Dhungana, who is a House of Representative candidate from Bhaktapur constituency-2, said that the democracy should be strengthened by making Nepal a politically stable country.

“The democracy is being pushed to danger. Thus, the voters should make the democratic alliance victorious and safeguard the democracy,” he said.

He further said that his election agenda was to create employment opportunities and bring agricultural revolution in the country.

Stating that Bhaktapur district is yet to see development as aspired and dreamed by the people, he added, “Bhaktapur has many possibilities of development. After election my focus will be exploring these possibilities and developing Bhaktapur as desired by the residents here.”

He added, “The voters are in my support. For them I am a better candidate.”

Dhungana, the former House Speaker (1991-1994) returned to politics after 23 years as NC decided to run as first-past-the-post candidate from Bhaktapur-2 in the upcoming parliamentary election. He had quit politics after he was defeated by CPN-UML candidate Bidya Devi Bhandari in 1994 mid-term parliamentary election. Left alliance candidate and UML’s youth leader Mahesh Banset will compete Dhungana in the constituency.
