Voting underway in 32 districts

KATHMANDU, Nov 26: The voting under the first phase of the federal and provincial elections has begun in 37 constituencies of 32 districts. The voting started at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.

Altogether 702 candidates (282 central parliament and 420 province assemblies) are contesting for 37 members of central parliament and 74 members of province assemblies.

Of the total 15.4 million voters, 3,119,459 will cast their votes today. Of them, 1,605,428 are male voters and 1,586,502 are female voters.

Voters have lined up in their respective voting centers since 6 am in the morning, according to Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav. A total of 2,919 polling centers and 4,465 polling stations have been set up.

Today’s voting is talking place in seven districts of province 1 (Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Panchthar and Khotang), six districts of province 3 (Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Dhading, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha and Ramechhap), six districts of province 4 (Mustang, Myagdi, Baglung, Manang, Lamjung and Gorkha), two districts province 6 (Rolpa and eastern part of Rukum), seven districts of province 6 (western part of Rukum, Jajarkot, Humla, Mugu, Jumla, Kalikot and Dolpa) and four districts of province 7 (Darchula, Bajhang, Bajura and Baitadi).

The second phases of elections in remaining 45 districts will be conducted on December 7.
