‘China supports Nepal developing friendly and positive relations with India’

KATHMANDU, March 30: China on Thursday said that it supports Nepal developing friendly and positive relations with India and other neighbors.
His statement comes at a time when speculations are growing that China wants Nepal to be fully tilted toward it.
“China, Nepal and India are important neighbors to each other. We hope the three sides can work together and have sound interactions and achieve common development goal,” said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang during a regular press briefing in Beijing.
“China also supports Nepal developing friendly and positive relations with its neighbors,” added Kang.
Kang also hailed Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s assertion to follow independent and balanced foreign policy. He said, “China commends Nepal government’s commitment toward independent foreign policy.”
Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, during his briefing to chiefs of diplomatic missions and Nepal’s development partners, on Tuesday had maintained that independent foreign policy and balanced conduct of relations would be the hallmarks of Nepal’s external engagements and the country’s policy and principle is maintaining friendly relations with all the nations of the world.
“We respect the legitimate interests of our neighbors and will not allow anything against them in our soil. Independent foreign policy and balanced conduct of relations would be the hallmarks of its external engagements. As the people of a country that was never under the control of any external power, we hold, more than anything else, the principles of sovereignty, independence and non-interference close to our heart,” the prime minister had asserted.
