Prime Minister Oli to brief parliament about his India visit today
KATHMANDU, April 3: Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli is scheduled to brief both the upper and lower house of the parliament about the agendas of his upcoming India visit on Tuesday. Prime Minister Oli is going on a three-day state visit to India on April 6 at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
“PM Oli will address the lower and upper houses separately,” Bharat Gautam, Spokesperson of the parliament told Republica on Monday.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradip Gyawali has already clarified that Oli’s India visit will be primarily focused on expediting the implementation of past agreements rather than signing any new projects.
PM Oli’s visit will also focus on strengthening the mutual trust between the two countries, which took a nasty turn following the 2015 Indian economic blockade.
Nepal and India will also ink a deal on bulk cargo movement through more transit points. The agreement will open door to import bulk cargo (fertiliser, sugar, soybean, salt, plastic and feeds) to Biratnagar, Bhairahawa and Nepalgunj via railway, according to sources.
Moreover, Prime Minister Oli and his Indian counterpart Modi will also inaugurate Birjung Raxaul Integrated Check Post from New Delhi.
During his visit, Prime Minister Oli will pay courtesy calls on Indian President, Ram Nath Kovind, and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu. Similarly, he will hold official talks with his Indian PM Narendra Modi and exchange views on matters of mutual interests.
The PM will also visit Pantnagar, Uttarakhand and attend a program organized at Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya.
