Upper House members draw government attention to contemporary issues
KATHMANDU, July 2: In a meeting of the National Assembly (NA) on Monday, the upper house members drew the attention of the government to various contemporary issues which also include the problems of monsoon disasters in hills and Tarai.
The government was urged to take timely preventive measures to avoid untoward consequences from natural disasters.
Taking part in the meeting, Suman Raj Pyakurel expressed his concern over growing threats of floods from the swollen rivers in various Tarai districts when monsoon has become active, seeking the implementation of timely measures from the government to avoid such risk.
Ram Narayan Bidari said the Tarai region in Nepal had been experiencing inundations in every monsoon and its consequences due to big dams constructed by the Indian side along the Nepal-India border.
Jitendra Dev advised the government to be serious while implementing connectivity-related projects. He was of the view that such projects should not be implemented on loans.
Brisheschandra Lal had demanded the Election Commission’s certificate to Reshamlal Chaudhary who was elected from the Kailali constituency-1 in the recent parliamentary election.
Balaram Sapkota urged the government to minutely review weaknesses reported in the SEE grading system.
Dhan Kumari Khatiwada complained that the earthquake survivors of Khokana and Bungmati in Lalipur were yet to be provided with the housing grants announced by the government.
Khemraj Nepali demanded the government conduct a study to find out the cause behind mass suicide by 68 women including Yogmaya Neupane by jumping into the Arun River.
Bimala Rai, Jeevan Budha and Nanda Chapai also put their views in the meeting.
NA chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina informed the house that ministries concerned in the next NA meeting will response to the issues raised in the today’s session. RSS
