SURKHET, July 5: Senior orthopedic surgeon Prof Dr Govinda KC has been admitted to the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences in Jumla after his health started deteriorating.

Dr KC, who is on a hunger strike in Jumla since five days, has been admitted to the emergency ward of the KAHS Teaching Hospital on Wednesday evening. He was taken to the hospital on an ambulance after his health became very serious, KAHS medical director Dr Pujan Rokaya said.

“We were compelled to take Dr KC to the emergency ward of the hospital after complications in his health,” Dr Rokaya said.

Assistant Chief District Officer, Tek Bahadur Budhthapa and Deputy Superintendent of Police Dr Tapan Kumar Dahal met Dr KC at the hospital.

The assistant chief district officer said that they have directed the doctors to do everything possible for Dr KC’s health treatment.

KAHS has said that Dr KC has been kept in intensive care unit. Dr KC had started his 15th hunger strike at the sports covered hall in Jumla on June 30, putting forth various demands including reform in the medical education sector. The covered hall lacked electricity and other facilities.

Despite frail health condition, Dr KC has taken a stance that he would not call off his hunger strike until the government addressed his demands. RSS
